Poultry are farmed in great numbers with chickens being the most numerous but also other domesticated birds such as ducks, turkeys and geese are raised to produce meat or eggs for food.
On Wambaale Community Demonstration Farm, we demonstrate the different types of breeds meant for meat and laying eggs.
More than 50 billion chickens are raised annually as a source of food, for both their meat and their eggs. Chickens raised for eggs are usually called laying hens/layers whilst chickens raised for meat are often called broilers.
We will demonstrate different methods through which poultry is raised like free-range, yarding or battery cage know the benefits of each method, feeding and welfare of the poultry.
Apart from earning from your poultry business, eggs and chicken can provide proteins to your family members. The enterprise can also be resourceful in providing manure to your other agribusiness enterprises.
