It’s now clear to Ugandans that global warming is for real. Floods, landslides, high temperatures, changing weather patterns and droughts among others are proof of this.

Surprisingly, our government still has no policy on how to curb global warming. Are we again waiting to be woken up by donors and act after disasters have occurred? Planting trees is the sure way of preventing climatic disasters. Trees absorb waste gasses like nitrogen and carbon monoxide thereby controlling temperature levels. Trees also help hold the soil firm and prevent disasters like landslides.

We should get an annual national tree planting week. To start with, every Ugandan should this week plant a tree. This would be a historical step in the right direction.
